You Can Accomplish Your Goals

There’s probably a lot running through your mind right now. From questioning how you’ll finish school to facing different reactions from family and friends, it’s easy to feel stuck.

First things first: if you’re worried you’ll be discriminated against due to your pregnancy, know that you have rights. Protections are in place to help you continue your education.

Title IX is a federal civil rights law implemented to protect pregnant (and parenting) students from harassment and discrimination. Any school or university receiving federal funds must comply with this law.

This law states that, among other things, your school must:

  • Allow you to continue participating in classes and extracurricular activities
  • Provide you with reasonable adjustments (i.e., more frequent restroom trips) because of your pregnancy
  • Not require a doctor’s note for hospitalization after childbirth (unless the school requires a note from all students hospitalized for physical or emotional conditions)
  • Provide excused absences for pregnancy and childbirth

When it comes to being pregnant in college, the law is in your corner. No one has the right to mistreat you, and if you believe you are being discriminated against, speaking to your school’s Title IX coordinator will ensure you receive protection and support.

Only You Can Decide Your Next Steps

Loved ones like your parents and friends may express their opinions on your pregnancy and which option you should choose. Though they likely have good intentions, receiving constant feedback and advice can be emotionally draining.

Remember, only you—not your parents, friends, or even your partner—have the right to make a pregnancy decision. You may choose to review your options with your partner or need some space to process your feelings and decide.

We know that navigating the ups and downs of an unexpected pregnancy can feel draining, so we’re here to be a support system. We’ll first provide an ultrasound if you qualify to confirm your pregnancy and gather essential information.

Then, our client advocates will help you weigh each option—parenting, adoption, and abortion—and discuss your goals so you can make an informed choice.

If you opt for parenting and adoption, we’ll help you find material and educational resources while pursuing your education. It’s your choice; we’ll help you gather the facts to feel confident.

Schedule a free and confidential appointment today. We’re looking forward to meeting you.

Carolina Pregnancy Center does not provide or refer for abortions.
