An unexpected pregnancy can be very difficult. If you have a friend who is unexpectedly pregnant, she will likely turn to you for support, love, and advice. In this time of confusion, you can be a true friend by being there when you’re needed and helping your friend make the right decision for her.
Helping with the choice…
The decision your friend has to make is one that will affect her for the rest of her life. Just the thought of having to decide between abortion, adoption, and parenting can cause strong emotions. Making the actual decision is even harder.
As her friend, you can help by supporting her through these times of turmoil. You can also help by making sure that each option is understood. At times, it may seem easier to rush into a decision, but you are there to help her make the choice that she can live with the rest of her life. The decision could be the most important one she’ll ever make.
Something to think about…
Abortion is often seen as a quick solution. However, before considering abortion, think about the following questions:
- What are the emotional, physical, and long-term risks of abortion?
- Did you know that, in one survey of women who had abortions, 92% of them regret their decisions?
- Why do most women not talk about their abortions?
- Did you know that in almost all adoptions today, the mother picks the family?
Remember to support, but not push…
Abortion can and does cause real harm. The emotional pain after an abortion can result in serious relationship problems that hurt everyone. You have the opportunity to help save your friend from years of pain and suffering. It can seem hard to help your friend consider an option other than abortion, but adoption and parenting are both healthy options. She needs to know that you will support her no matter what her choice. Our client advocates are here to help her explore all of her options.
Adoption is a way for women in crisis pregnancies to give a baby life, to provide a loving family, and retain contact with the child. Adoption today is much different than it used to be. The birth mother chooses a family from many family profiles and decides how much contact she wants with her child. We have reputable adoption agencies we refer to and your friend will not be alone in the process. We are here to talk with her more about this option, with no pressure on her to make a quick decision. She has time to make the best decision for her and her baby.
Parenting is another great option. With support from you and the client advocates here at Carolina Pregnancy Center, she is not alone. We have a complete parenting program called Earn While You Learn. She can enroll in this program and earn all the items she needs for this new baby while also learning valuable parenting skills. While bringing a baby into the world can be scary, it doesn’t have to present a huge financial burden on your friend. We are here to walk with her through every step of the process.
It is important to help your friend weigh her options, without pushing your own opinion too strongly. Ultimately she is the one who will have to live with this decision the rest of her life. We are here to help her process through this life changing decision. Please encourage her to schedule an appointment with one of our client advocates today.
